Curator and Exhibitions Manager   

Are you an inspiring curator with a passion for regional and Australian art? The New England Regional Art Museum (NERAM) is seeking a Curator and Exhibitions Manager  to lead our dynamic exhibition program, interpret and display NERAM’s significant collections, and engage our community through innovative curatorial projects.

At NERAM you will work with one of the most significant art collections in regional Australia. NERAM is home to the Howard Hinton Collection, the Chandler Coventry Collection, the Armidale City Collection, the NERAM Collection and the FT Wimble & Co. Collection at the Museum of Printing.

As a key member of our team, you’ll develop and deliver thought-provoking exhibitions, collaborate with artists and stakeholders, and contribute to NERAM’s vision to be a vibrant cultural meeting place and iconic destination for the New England region, where local and national arts converge to inspire community connection, creativity, and lifelong learning. We’re looking for a creative and strategic thinker with extensive curatorial experience, strong leadership skills, and a deep appreciation for art in regional contexts.

INTERN POSITIONS

NERAM recognises the importance of internships in enabling students to gain valuable workplace experience and develop industry-specific abilities in a chosen area. NERAM values the contribution that interns make to the workplace and provides the opportunity for students to develop personally and professionally in a supportive environment.

Preference is given to students who are currently enrolled in a recognised Australian tertiary educational institution.  Students studying the visual arts, arts/museum administration, conservation or an area in which NERAM has an identified expertise will be given priority over other applicants.

NERAM provides a flexible and practical internship program which offers placements in a combination of different areas to provide as broad an experience as possible.  Placements can be negotiated in terms of length and of hours worked.  Areas will include:

  • Visitor experience
  • Marketing
  • Museum of Printing
  • Fundraising/Functions
  • Public Programs
  • Curatorial Research
  • Registration and Collection Management

Basic accommodation in our on-site Artist-in-Residence area, comprising a separate bedroom, bathroom and living area and basic kitchen requirements, may be available free to any NERAM intern during the term of their internship.  A small security bond will be required which will be refundable at the end of the internship.

WORK EXPERIENCE POSITIONS

The New England Regional Art Museum offers work experience in a sincere effort to provide a quality, diversified program in which students from a variety of educational disciplines have the opportunity to apply traditional academic classroom learning to actual work situations within the Museum, in order to develop personal and professional skills for future career development and placement.
